Dear Neighbor,

ROADS & BRIDGES TRANSPORTATION FUNDING BILL
The Transportation Finance Omnibus bill passed out of the House Transportation Committee this week.  The bill spends $2 billion over the next two years and $6 billion over the next decade WITHOUT RAISING TAXES and prioritizes roads & bridges funding!

Among the provisions included in the bill is funding for Corridors of Commerce which I chief authored.  Additionally, before the finance bill passed out of committee I authored an amendment that was successfully adopted onto the bill which further narrows the selection criteria CoC projects qualify to include among other criteria those projects which received CoC funding in previous years shall receive priority with the new funds.

When commenting on the bill just before passing out of committee, one Democrat member of the committee remarked, “Light rail gets eviscerated in this bill, especially Southwest Light Rail.”

TAX CUT BILL
Details of the House Republican Omnibus Tax Cut bill were released this week which includes $1.35 billion in tax cuts prioritizing relief for all Minnesotans. I’ve included below just a handful of examples of tax cut provisions included in the bill.

  • Increases the limit before social security income becomes taxable for Minnesota seniors
  • Creates a college saving plan credit for college students and their families
  • Excludes the first $200,000 property tax value on commercial / industrial properties bringing relief to job creators in our local communities
  • Establishes a property tax credit for farmers that reduces their disproportionate share of school district debt service

ELIMINATE SWLRT FEDERAL FUNDING
I'm among 84 Republican legislators who signed a letter sent to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao this week urging her to block $895 million in federal funding for wasteful Southwest Light Rail. I’ve included a link below to a copy of the letter.
