CHRISTENSEN INTRODUCES FIRST BILL

Tuesday, February 3, 2015
ST. PAUL – State Rep. Drew Christensen (R-Burnsville) introduced his first bill of the 2015-2016 Legislative Session on Monday, January 2, 2015. HF552 will require a two-thirds vote of both houses in order to implement a school shift that provides less than 90% of the agreed-upon funding to school districts. Its Senate companion file, SF301, is authored by Senator Eric Pratt (R-Prior Lake). The bill was referred to the Education Finance committee for further discussion.

“We cannot continue to balance extraneous state spending on the backs of our students without having a serious discussion about the impacts,” said Christensen. “My bill will require both bodies of the legislature to truly evaluate the effects of the shift on students and school districts prior to passing any shift that has the potential to adversely affect our students’ education future. I am proud to have bipartisan support on this important piece of education policy, and I look forward to meeting with education stakeholders and my colleagues as we continue discussion on this bill.”

Christensen can be reached by phone at (651) 296-4212. He can also be contacted via email at rep.drew.christensen@house.mn, or via mail at 529 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, St. Paul, MN 55155.
