ST. PAUL - Yesterday, House Speaker-designate Paul Thissen announced the Minnesota House of Representatives committee assignments for the 2013-2014 biennium selecting State Representative-elect Erik Simonson (DFL – Duluth) to serve on the Public Safety Finance and Policy, Taxes, Transportation Policy, and Labor, Workplace and Regulated Industries Committees.

“I’m honored Speaker-Elect Thissen has appointed me to serve on these important committees and for the opportunity to work closely on many of the issues my constituents care deeply about,” said Rep.-elect Simonson. With my background, I have a keen interest in public safety, transportation and workplace/jobs issues. The Tax Committee will play a key role in revamping Minnesota’s tax system to make it fairer and less complex – this is of utmost importance to Duluth residents and I am eager to be a part of it,” added Simonson.

Rep.-elect Simonson is an assistance chief for the Duluth Fire Department and President of the IAFF Local 101 and will be serving in his first term.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve my state and community. It is an honor to represent the people of District 7B and I am eager to roll up my sleeves and get to work bringing positive change to our area,” Simonson concluded.

Minnesota’s 2013 Legislative Session will officially convene on January 8, 2013 when all 134 State Representatives will be sworn into office during a ceremony at the State Capitol.
