REP. YVONNE SELCER STATEMENT ON FEBRUARY BUDGET FORECAST

Thursday, February 28, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – The February budget forecast has been released and shows a projected budget deficit of $627 million for fiscal years 2014-15.  The previous November budget forecast showed a projected deficit of $1.1 billion.

State Representative Yvonne Selcer (DFL-Minnetonka) released the following statement:

“Minnesota’s budget deficit is shrinking due to economic recovery and job growth.  I am encouraged by this reduction but unfortunately we still must close a large budget gap.  We have an opportunity to structurally balance the budget in a responsible way that funds Minnesota’s priorities into the future.

“We must end the status quo of borrowing, deep cuts and budget gimmicks that have put our state budget in deficit for most of the last decade.  As we work to close the budget deficit, we must also invest in priorities to make our state economically competitive.  Improving education, infrastructure and business opportunities will keep Minnesota strong and prosperous for years to come.”

Rep. Selcer can be reached by phone at (651) 296-3964 or by email at rep.yvonne.selcer@house.mn.
