ST. PAUL, MN - State Representative Yvonne Selcer (DFL - Minnetonka) was officially sworn in as the District 48A State Representative as the 88th Legislative Session convened at noon on January 8th at the State Capitol. Rep. Selcer, first elected in 2012, is beginning her first term in the Minnesota House of Representatives serving Eden Prairie and Minnetonka.
“The State of Minnesota faces many challenges," said Rep. Selcer. “Minnesotans want elected officials to work together on common sense solutions to grow our economy and improve our schools so our kids have access to a world-class education.”
Economic forecasts revealed early last month that lawmakers must tackle a $1.1 billion budget shortfall this year. When the money still owed to schools and inflation is included the shortfall rises to over $3 billion.
“We have difficult challenges ahead, but I am confident we will set clear priorities for our state, balance the budget responsibly and get Minnesota back on track.” added Rep. Selcer. “We have a real opportunity to strengthen our economy and improve our community.”
Rep. Selcer signaled a desire to work in on bipartisan legislation this session.
“I plan to work with both sides of the aisle on solutions to our state’s problems,” said Rep. Selcer. “Working with Democrats, Republicans and Independents is the only way to put Minnesota back on the road to economic prosperity.”
Much of that work will begin in legislative hearings throughout the coming weeks and months. This session Rep. Selcer will serve on the Education Finance, Energy Policy and Transportation Policy Committees.
“I’m very excited to begin work on these committees and for the opportunity work on local issues that will impact the residents of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka,” said Rep. Selcer.
