FITZSIMMONS BEGINS FIRST TERM

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Dear neighbor,

Last week I had the honor of being sworn in as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. I am humbled by the confidence the voters of my district have expressed in me, and I am ready to represent their best interests.

Some of my top priorities for this legislative session include pushing for highway expansion on I-94 between Rogers and St. Michael. Congresswoman Bachmann has already visited my office in St. Paul to discuss this subject and is very supportive. I’m also looking at legislation for a more equitable school funding formula so that schools in Wright County are not short changed. Along with other Wright County legislators, I attended a meeting in early January to discuss solutions to address this issue with local school officials. I also want to work on creating a tax and regulation policy for our state that fosters economic growth. While I’m concerned with some of the proposals put forth by the DFL that may stifle job creation, I am looking for areas of agreement with my colleagues to help make our state’s business climate more competitive.

We began work on the Capital Investment committee on Thursday.  The other committees I serve on will begin meeting this week. I’m looking forward to also starting my committee work on the Higher Education, Transportation Policy, and Agriculture Policy committees.
