Rep.-elect Erickson Selected to Serve on Agriculture Policy, Education Policy, and the Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture Finance Committees

Friday, December 14, 2012

(ST. PAUL) — Yesterday, House Speaker-designate Paul Thissen announced the Minnesota House of Representatives committee assignments for the 2013-2014 biennium, selecting state Representative-elect Roger Erickson (DFL – Baudette) to serve on the Agriculture Policy, Education Policy, and the Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture Finance Committees.

“I’m honored to be serving on these very important committees and for the opportunity to work closely on many of the issues my constituents care most about,” said Rep.-elect Erickson. “We’re fortunate in Minnesota to have a beautiful environment and great outdoor experiences, and it’s important for our quality of life and for our local economies. One of my priorities is to prevent the spreading of Aquatic Invasive Species that could cause serious damage to our lakes, rivers, and streams.

“District 2A also has many school districts and I look forward to serving on the Education Policy Committee. Great schools lead to a growing middle-class. Our public schools need the best teachers in the classroom and adequate funding so that all children have an equal opportunity for success. There’s a lot to be done, but I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”

Rep.-elect Erickson taught for 34 years at Lake of the Woods Schools before retiring in 2010. He coached football and golf for 25 years, retiring in 2012. Rep.-elect Erickson is also an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and curler.

The Legislative Session is scheduled to begin on January 8, 2013.
