NEWS RELEASE: HOUSE PASSES JOBS BILL, PROVIDING MN EMPLOYERS WITH HISTORIC TAX CUT AND INVESTING IN PROVEN STRATEGIES TO GROW NEW JOBS

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — The House passed the Jobs, Commerce, Energy and Housing Budget Bill Wednesday on a vote of 73-59.

Rep. Zachary Dorholt (DFL-St. Cloud) released the following statement:

“I have heard from countless St. Cloud residents this session that jobs and economic development are major priorities.   Creating jobs has been one of my main goals this legislative session and in this bill we’re growing new Minnesota jobs and making sure Minnesota keeps its competitive economic edge.

“The bill delivers the largest business tax cut in Minnesota history.  This $346 million tax cut will save employers an average of $150 per employee, by reducing the rate that they pay into the unemployment insurance fund.  As a part-business owner, I know that this will help businesses of all sizes to stay competitive.

“I am a big supporter of any and all efforts to employ more St. Cloud residents here in the state.   The jobs bill invests in financial incentives to encourage employers to set up shop in Minnesota, works to integrate Minnesota businesses into foreign markets, and includes a new apprentice program for manufacturers that will help to fill jobs in growing industries.  Through these efforts, we will see more Minnesotans employed and more successful businesses in Minnesota.”
