REP. DORHOLT BILL CORRECTS OUTDATED MENTAL HEALTH STATUTES

Friday, April 26, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – Today the House passed HF 969, a bill to update the definition of a diagnostic assessment, clarify clinical supervision requirements, and allow doctoral level psychologists to be members of a special review board panel. The bill passed on a bipartisan vote of 125-0.

Chief bill author Zachary Dorholt (DFL-Saint Cloud) released the following statement:

“The word “retarded” shows up in state statute at least 17 times and this bill corrects that to reflect today’s definition of developmentally disabled.  This bill replaces 15 years of outdated language and definitions and modernizes state mental health statutes.  I am proud of the bipartisan vote on this bill and the work that was put forth by the mental health community to address this problem.”

Rep. Dorholt can be reached by phone at (651) 296-6612 or by email at rep.zachary.dorholt@house.mn.
