MANY ST. CLOUD PROJECTS INCLUDED IN HOUSE BONDING BILL

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN—Today, the House released its $800 million bonding proposal.  Several St. Cloud projects are in the bill, including completing the Rivers Edge Convention Center, improving St. Cloud State University buildings, investing in local parks and expanding our bus station.  In addition to these projects, the St. Cloud correctional facility could receive some asset preservation.  Rep. Zach Dorholt (DFL-St. Cloud) authored many bills that are now part of the bonding bill.

“Completing the Rivers Edge Convention Center has been a great community effort,” commented Dorholt.  “This is a collaborative effort of Mayor Kleis, city and local officials and I am pleased that the completion made it in the bill.”

Bonding projects address many of the state’s most needed infrastructure improvements, strengthen the economy and create local jobs.  Interest rates are low and the last General Obligation bonds were sold in August 2012 at an all-time historic low-interest rate of 2.05%.  Many projects that are being considered have already been delayed for several years.

“Now is a great time to bond to create jobs, stimulate the economy and improve local infrastructure,” said Dorholt.  “These bonding projects are a great investment for Greater Minnesota and for St. Cloud.”

St. Cloud is one of the state’s biggest beneficiaries under the House bonding proposal.
