REP. DORHOLT STATEMENT ON FEBRUARY BUDGET FORECAST

Thursday, February 28, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – The February budget forecast has been released and shows a projected budget deficit of $627 million for fiscal years 2014-15.  The previous November budget forecast showed a projected deficit of $1.1 billion.

Rep. Zachary Dorholt (DFL-St. Cloud) released the following statement:

“Minnesota is on the road to economic recovery and we see this through increased state revenues and employment.  After a decade of status quo budget cuts and gimmicks, it is time to move Minnesota into the future by structurally balancing the budget and properly funding state priorities.  I am encouraged by the reduced budget deficit and the money that will be allocated towards paying back the $1.1 billion owed to our schools due to borrowing by the previous legislature.

“The more positive budget situation means that the state will have more money to invest in initiatives to help middle-class families and the St. Cloud community like property tax relief, education funding and reducing costs of higher education.  Funding these priorities will help set up Minnesota for future prosperity.”
