STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR DAYTON’S STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS

Thursday, February 7, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN –Yesterday, Governor Dayton addressed a joint convention of the House and Senate to outline his vision for Minnesota.  In his address, the governor made a case for his budget proposals including education investment, job creation and tax reform.

State Representative Zach Dorholt (DFL-St. Cloud) released the following statement:

“I think that Governor Dayton recognizes that one of the economic drivers of Minnesota is that we are a brainpower state.  I am excited about his passion for the investments that we should be and can be making here in Minnesota.  Higher education and K-12 education are what put us on the map and it’s good to see that as a priority again.

“During his address, the governor said, “The Genius of our system of governance is that no one gets to have it all her or his way—starting with the governor.”  This sets the tone that Governor Dayton is ready and willing to work with members from all over the state and on both sides of the aisle.  I appreciate his willingness to do so and I think Minnesotans deserve and expect this kind of bipartisan approach.

“Governor Dayton is taking a bold look at ways to actually create jobs and boost economic growth for our state.  Instead of following the status quo he is moving forward, and I can appreciate that.  I look forward to working with him as we find bipartisan solutions to structurally balance the budget, make Minnesota more economically competitive, strengthen our schools and provide property tax relief for all Minnesotans.”
