Go ahead and file your state income taxes if you have been holding off while the Minnesota Department of Revenue updated our tax code to reflect recently enacted changes.
Revenue said updated forms and software are now in place, allowing approximately 300,000 Minnesotans to claim new tax breaks and credits on their returns. If you are using tax software on your personal computer to file your taxes, be sure to accept and install updates from your software provider as this version will reflect the latest state changes.
As I have mentioned in previous emails, Revenue will check to see if new deductions apply to people who already have filed. The department will then contact citizens to either outline changes they made or to provide citizens with further instructions.
