State Rep. Carly Melin Named DFL Assistant Majority Leader

ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative Carly Melin (DFL–Hibbing) was officially sworn in as the State Representative for District 6A as the 88th Legislative Session convened at noon on January 8th at the State Capitol. For her second term, Rep. Melin has been appointed by Speaker Paul Thissen as an Assistant Majority Leader. In this position, Rep. Melin will help the House Majority Leader coordinate House floor activity and assist with leading the House majority caucus.

“I’m very excited about this new leadership role,” said Rep. Melin. “I hope to bring a unique perspective to the leadership team. Voters spoke loud and clear that they want government to focus on the issues that matter most to Minnesotans. I will work hard to ensure that the House DFL majority governs effectively and brings about the positive change our state needs.”

The House DFL caucus appointed six assistant majority leaders in addition to Rep. Melin. The assistant leaders represent districts throughout the state and include: Rep. John Persell, DFL-Bemidji, Rep. Jason Isaacson, DFL –Shoreview, Rep. Leon Lillie, DFL – North Saint Paul, Rep. Diane Loeffler, DFL – Minneapolis, Rep. Kim Norton, DFL –Rochester, and Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd.

Rep. Melin will be busy during the 2013-14 Legislative Session serving on several committees including: Capital Investment, Taxes, Early Childhood and Youth Development Policy, and Rules and Legislative Administration.  In addition, she was selected as Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Finance and Policy Committee.

“It is truly an honor to have been given these assignments. I will take the responsibilities that come with them very seriously,” added Melin.
