REP. HANCOCK CONGRATULATES AREA FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR RECIPIENTS

Friday, August 7, 2015

ST. PAUL – Minnesota's 'Farm Families of the Year' were unveiled by the University of Minnesota at Farmfest recently, and State Representative Dave Hancock (R-Bemidji) is congratulating this year's recipients from House District 2A.

"Farming is a critical component of Minnesota's economy, and this year's award recipients are among the best in the state at prioritizing agriculture and strengthening our food supply," Hancock said. "This recognition is well deserved and I congratulate these area families for their accomplishments."

The Lindman Skime Family has received the award from Beltrami County this year. They practice organic and sustainable farming in producing their vegetables, eggs, chicken and beef. Amber oversees the operations, while her children, Nash, Austin, Autumn and Gabriel are also involved with work on the farm.

Mark and Sharon Larson, recipients of the award from Clearwater County, operate a farm that has been in their family since 1896. It is a purebred beef and small grain farm where wheat, alfalfa, corn, and soybeans are raised.

Hubbard County's award winners are Norton and Carol Berg, who purchased their farm near Guthrie in 1968. Today it includes 700 acres of corn, oats, and hay along with 40 purebred Angus cows that make up their cow/calf operation.

80 families throughout Minnesota received the 'Farm Families of the Year' award for 2015.
