Legislative Update from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

Friday, May 17, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Throughout the course of this year’s legislative session, I have done my best to keep you up-to-date on the gun control bills that have been moving through the legislature. As I’ve detailed, these bills do little to address the problem of gun violence and would instead make it much more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their constitutional right to self-defense.

I am pleased to report that it appears that these extreme gun control bills will not become law this year. While nothing is truly dead until final adjournment, the Public Safety and Judiciary conference committee held a vote on Tuesday to incorporate the gun-control measures into the omnibus public safety finance bill. The vote failed on a party-line vote of 5-5.

While it is technically possible that these bills could reappear in the final days of the session, I would be surprised.

Please be sure to contact the governor and members of the public safety conference committee to let them know that you oppose these bills.

As for myself, I will continue to protect your 2nd Amendment rights and will vote no on these gun-grabbing bills.

Have a great day,

Glenn
