Lots of recognition for locals!

Friday, February 7, 2014

Dear Neighbors,

Good luck to Warroad hockey Olympians, T.J. Oshie and Gigi Marvin, as the Sochi Games get underway!

The Olympics opening ceremony is televised tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. on NBC. Minnesota has 19 Olympians competing in Sochi, second only to the state of Colorado with 20 athletes.

Local business leaders featured in Twin Cities Business Magazine

Congratulations to Susan Marvin, President, Marvin Windows and Scott Wine, Chairman and CEO, Polaris Industries, Inc. for being listed as “Leaders in the C-Suite” in the Twin Cities Business Magazine’s “Black Book: People and Companies to Help You Succeed in 2014”!

Reach Out for Warmth program accepting donations

Yesterday I spoke with the folks at NW Community Action involved in emergency and social services. Due to the Midwest propane shortage, home heating costs have sky-rocketed. Several families in our area are really suffering—some are unable to pay their bills and others might have to leave their homes.

I’m encouraging individuals, businesses, service organizations, and churches to do one of the things we do best in northwest Minnesota: help out our neighbors in significant need.

The “Reach Out for Warmth” program through NW Community Action is a special fund that helps families with limited resources who are facing an electric disconnect or are in a no heat situation and unable to purchase fuel to heat their home.

I’ve been on the radio in Roseau and TRF over the last two days in support of this program. I’ve made mention that 100% of the tax-deductible donations go directly to the electric or fuel vendor.

If you’re willing and able to help, donations can be made payable to: “Northwest Community Action” and the memo portion of the check should indicate that it is for Reach Out for Warmth (ROFW). Mail your donation to NWCA/ P.O. Box 67/ Badger, MN 56714. If you have any questions, please phone Northwest Community Action: (218) 528-3258.

Note: NW Community Action serves Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Marshall and Roseau counties. Tri-Valley Opportunity Council (Crookston) and the Inter County Community Council (Oklee) also provide similar programs to “Reach Out for Warmth.”

Update on the TRF Airport

I was in TRF today to visit with several airport employees—from TSA security officers to rental car staffers to employees of the airport authority—who are all affected by the suspension of commercial air service to TRF.

We talked about the effect it will have on peoples’ lives and the local business community if service isn’t restored fairly quickly.

I’ve been in contact with our Washington delegation about the issue, because they’re the ones who can do the most to fix the federal regulations that are causing pilot shortages around the country. I’ll keep you updated as those conversations continue.

*****

My door is always open to the needs and priorities of our area. Please feel free to let me know if I can be of assistance to you and your family. I am here to serve you!

Dan
