Capitol Update from Rep. Dan Fabian

Friday, April 5, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Here is the latest news from the Capitol!

This week I again made a motion to bring my bill up for a vote to stop the Commerce Department from throwing away even more taxpayer dollars against the Line 3 replacement project. Unfortunately, the Democrats are unwilling to even have a conversation on this topic, despite several of them expressing support for the project previously. There is no reason to delay this project, and there is no sense having one governmental entity suing another over a project that has been through the process and unanimously approved on more than one occasion. I’ve talked to many constituents who have asked for a bill like this and who recognize how critically important this project is for Greater Minnesota. I will continue fighting for our area, and I hope the Democrats agree to have this conversation soon instead of supporting nonsensical lawsuits that delay projects that are important to our area.

Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life released information earlier this week showing that in 2017, taxpayer funded abortions hit a record high of $1.06 million for 4,356 abortions. In particular, Planned Parenthood has increased the amount of abortions by a staggering 196 percent since 2011. At facilities other than Planned Parenthood, abortions have actually declined by 36 percent in that time. The legislature passed bills in both 2011 and 2017 to stop taxpayer funded abortion, but both bills were vetoed by Governor Mark Dayton.

I had some great visits with members of the Local 49 and Roseau Electric Cooperative. I always enjoy meeting with constituents at the Capitol!
