RELEASE: Rep. Scott Statement on New DHS Email Data Retention Schedule

Wednesday, July 26, 2023

ST. PAUL — Rep. Peggy Scott (R-Andover) released the following statement after it was revealed that the Minnesota Department of Human Services is shortening its data retention schedule from three years down to one year:

“It is shocking that DHS thinks it appropriate to change department standards to save emails for only one year without legislative input. From issues with the Child Care Assistance Program to Feeding Our Future, our state government has been defrauded of hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years. DHS is one of many departments facing renewed scrutiny in the wake of these scandals. Democrats and Republicans can agree that Minnesotans deserve accountability and transparency in their government. Lowering these standards will make it harder to hold programs and the bureaucrats who administer them accountable. I urge DHS to rethink this proposal and I hope the legislature can work together on bipartisan solutions to ensure that Minnesotans’ tax dollars are protected.”
