St. Paul, Minn. – This evening, Governor Mark Dayton presented his eighth and final State of the State address to the Minnesota Legislature. State Representative Paul Rosenthal (DFL-Edina) attended the event and released the following statement:
“Throughout his time leading our state, Governor Dayton has remained consistent in prioritizing fiscal stability and security for Minnesota. Inheriting a $6.2 billion deficit and coming out ahead with a modest surplus is a tremendous accomplishment we should all be proud of. Minnesota is the place where my wife and I have raised our family, and I am happy to call it home. Our high national ratings on economic growth, high school graduation rates, and places to work, raise a family and retire should be recognized as a result of the hard work we have invested in our state. To maintain our economic progress, it is essential that we remain wise with budgeting; the surplus should not be treated as if it’s burning a hole in Minnesota’s pocket. But smart investments made within our budget will help us build a better future for all Minnesotans.”
