Rep. Linda Slocum's Statement on the 2013 Special Session

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – Yesterday, the Minnesota Legislature convened for a one-day Special Session to approve $4.5 million in disaster aid for 18 southern and central Minnesota counties damaged by storms in June. Lawmakers also appropriated disaster aid for counties impacted by the 2013 ice storm.

The 18 Minnesota counties eligible for disaster relief aid in the wake of the June storms include Benton, Big Stone, Douglas, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Grant, Hennepin, Houston, McLeod, Morrison, Pope, Sibley, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Traverse and Wilkin.

Rep. Linda Slocum (DFL—Richfield and Bloomington) released the following statement:

“Sometimes people complain about “too much government,” but the 2013 Special Session shows that government has an important role to play. Providing relief to communities and neighborhoods damaged by storms and flooding is exactly what government is all about. When disaster hits, Minnesotans step up and help out. It’s simply the right thing to do and it’s what we accomplished. Yesterday was a good day for Minnesota”
