Rep. Laine on Gov. Dayton's State of the State

Thursday, April 9, 2015

SAINT PAUL, MN – Last night, Governor Mark Dayton gave his fifth State of the State Address to a joint session of the Minnesota House and Senate.  The Governor made his case for a comprehensive, long term solution for Minnesota’s impending transportation needs.  He also argued for investments in early childhood education.  State Representative Carolyn Laine (DFL – Columbia Heights) was in attendance and issued the following statement:

“The Governor is making a sensible case for road user fees to pay for road repairs.  We know that many of our roads will reach the end of their lifespan in the next 10 years.  We’ve always had the people who use roads pay for their upkeep with user taxes on gasoline.”

Governor Dayton also urged passage of universal pre-kindergarten.  “Having worked on early education issues, I know that this would be a game-changing investment in our next generation.  This is what we need to keep Minnesota excellent,” said Laine.
