(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Under the newly created DMC law, Mayo is required to create the Economic Development Agency. One area lawmaker feels the appointees to that agency do not comply with the law.
Destination Medical Center is set to bring big changes to Rochester. The Economic Development Agency will play a big role in those changes.
"There are already 6 members, but that doesn't mean it will only be 6 members," said state representative Kim Norton.
Representative Norton is concerned with the choices for the members of the EDA. She says the law stated that the members should include city or county employees.
"The concern from the house and I, is that the EDA would move further down the line, maybe not taking into account the city and county’s master plan," said Rep. Norton.
The EDA will serve the DMCC board by providing expertise and developing a master plan. Norton says other community members are concerned as well. She's hopeful that the board will listen and add a member from the city or county.
"Boards oversee staff and they oversee the master plan ahead," said Rep. Norton
Like most things having to do with DMC the EDA is still a work in progress.
"There's just a difference in interpretation and there still things we’re trying to work out," said Rep. Norton.
Rep. Norton was planning to meet with Mayo Monday to talk about adding a member to the Economic Development Agency. The EDA board has no set number for how many people should be a part of it. The board has already stated that they plan to add members.
