HOUSE BONDING BILL MAKES CRITICAL INVESTMENTS IN MANKATO

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN—Today, the House released major bonding legislation.

The House has proposed an $800 million bonding proposal to provide funding for statewide infrastructure and building improvements.  Many local measures are in the bill, including funding for the Minnesota River Trail, Greater Minnesota transit improvements, Rapidan Dam improvements and renovations to the Mankato Civic Center.  The bill also includes funding for building maintenance and repairs to Morris and Nelson Hall at MSU, Mankato.  The bill would create an estimated 22,800 jobs across the state.

“The House bonding proposal is very important for the Greater Mankato area,” said Rep. Brynaert.  “Renovating the civic center is crucial for Mankato and Minnesota State University Mankato and these projects are important as we work to create jobs and strengthen our economy.  ”

Interest rates are at historic lows (2.06%) The civic center renovation has urgency and many projects included in the bonding bill have already been delayed for several years.

“Now is a good time to make these investments in needed infrastructure and improvements,” said Rep. Brynaert.  “Addressing these projects now will save taxpayer dollars later and will contribute to the region’s economic development and growth.”
