News from Representative Dean 02-04-2013

Monday, February 4, 2013

Dear Friends,

Some updates from the month of January at the Capitol:

Capitol Preservation Commission

This month, I was sworn in for a new term as a member of the Capitol Area Architectural Preservation Board. I aslo serve on the Minnesota State Capitol Preservation Commission, which is made up of various legislators, state officials, and members of the public and is tasked with developing a comprehensive plan for the restoration and preservation of the State Capitol Building. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the commission as planning continues for the next phase of the Capitol restoration project so future generations of Minnesotans can continue to enjoy our incredible State Capitol.

Grant for Lakeshore Players Theater

Last week I had the opportunity to join Senator Roger Chamberlain in presenting an Arts Learning Grant check to the Lakeshore Players Theater in White Bear Lake. The theater was one of several organizations to receive the competitive grant, which is funded by the Legacy amendment, passed by voters in 2008 to help fund arts and cultural projects throughout the state. Congratulations to the Theater for their hard work and for obtaining the grant.

6th Annual BEAR'ly Open Golf Tournament

Tomorrow I will be joining Rep. Peter Fischer and Senator Chamberlain for the 6th Annual BEAR'ly Open Golf Tournament which takes place on White Bear Lake. The tournament is coordinated by the White Bear Lake Rotary Club and White Bear Events, and raises money for the White Bear Lake Emergency Food Shelf. For more information on the tournament please visit www.explorewhitebear.org, or call 651-653-5122. For information on how to make a donation to the White Bear Lake Emergency Food Shelf, please visit www.whitebearfoodshelf.org.

State of the State

Next week, Governor Dayton will come before a joint legislative session to deliver his 2013 State of the State Address. I look forward to hearing from the Governor about his priorities and proposals for the 2013 session, and hope he will express willingness to work with Democrats and Republicans alike to find the best solutions for our state.

Stay warm, and have a great week,

Matt Dean
State Representative, District 38B
