ZELLERS & KELLY STATEMENT ON SPECIAL SESSION

State Representative Kurt Zellers (R-Maple Grove) and State Representative Tim Kelly (R-Red Wing) released the following statement today regarding Governor Mark Dayton’s continued comments calling for a special session to address disaster relief and repeal of the sales tax on farm equipment:

“It is disappointing that Governor Dayton has refused to acknowledge the damage done to our state’s economy by imposing business-to-business taxes that end up hurting consumers and killing jobs,” said Rep. Zellers.  “These taxes impact virtually every sector of our economy, from mining to retail to agriculture.  By declaring that he only will allow repeal of one of these taxes during the Special Session, Governor Dayton has decided to pit one group against the others, at the expense of jobs in Minnesota.”

Rep. Kelly, who discussed the warehousing tax with Governor Dayton on Tuesday of this week, added “The Legislature should come together and not only take care of disasters caused by nature but also those disasters that are man-made. The warehousing and business-to-business taxes imposed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Dayton in May are harming job creation in Minnesota, and must be repealed at once.”

Reps. Kelly, Zellers and other House Republicans called for a special session in June to repeal the warehousing tax, and will introduce a bill during the special session to repeal the new business-to-business taxes.
