Zellers Statement on House DFL Budget Framework

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

ST. PAUL – Rep. Kurt Zellers (R-Maple Grove) released the following statement regarding the House DFL’s budget framework:

Minnesota is one of the leading states in the nation when you look at our recovery from the great recession. Our unemployment is lower than the national average and our state budget has nearly repaired itself from the tremendous deficits the DFL left us when Republicans took control of the Legislature after 2010. In fact, our state has a balanced budget going forward.

Yet today, Democrats in the Minnesota House proposed a massive new increase in government spending paid for by an 11% income tax on small business women and men, a “snack tax” on chips and jerky, a tax on beer, wine and alcohol, an increased sales tax for anything purchased in the metro area and some yet undefined fees. This all out ‘tax assault’ on middle class Minnesotans grows government but does nothing to grow the jobs people need.
