State Rep. Michael V. Nelson Announces Retirement

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, Representative Michael V. Nelson (DFL – Brooklyn Park) announced his intention to retire at the end of the current biennium. He will not seek re-election this fall.

“Serving my community in the Minnesota House has been the greatest honor of my life, but the time has come to pass the torch,” said Rep. Nelson. “After years of shared dreams and weathered storms, we passed historic legislation last session, and I am filled with gratitude for the progress we made for Minnesotans. I want to extend a sincere thank you to my community for trusting me with this honor for over two decades. I am incredibly proud to call Brooklyn Park home."

Rep. Nelson represents District 38A, which includes Brooklyn Park and parts of Osseo. He was first elected to the Minnesota House in 2002 and has served as Chair of several committees during his 22 years of service, including the Government Operations Committee and the State Government Finance and Elections Committee. Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Labor Committee.
