Dear neighbors,
The Capitol has been a busy place in the last two weeks. Please see info below about the Governor’s budget proposal, a campaign to grant earned sick and safe leave to all Minnesota workers, and information about an upcoming townhall event.
The Governor’s Budget
Governor Dayton released his budget early last week, and I’m pleased with the strong impact his budget will have on early education, childcare tax credits, and E-12 school funding, along with many other areas of state government. If you would like a quick summary of the Governor’s proposal you can click here, and for more in-depth information you can see more budget proposal links here.
MN Benefits Kick-off Event in Duluth
This week, I took part in a kick-off event for a campaign to establish earned sick and safe leave for all employees in Minnesota. I was joined by colleagues and members of TakeAction Minnesota in Duluth. I’m the chief author of the legislation, which would require employers to offer at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. It would make all full- and part-time employees in the state eligible for the benefit after three months on the job. You can learn more and sign the petition to pass the bill here!
MNA Award
Last Friday I was honored to receive an award from the Minnesota Newspaper Association as a “Friend of Minnesota Newspaper” for a long track record of being an advocate for government transparency and personal privacy. I appreciate all the good work that the MNA does to promote good journalism in newspapers throughout the state.
