Legislative Update - October 7, 2019

Monday, October 7, 2019

Neighbors and Friends,

As I mentioned in the last update, the legislature held a “mini-session” in Southeast Minnesota last week. We received input from many local residents during committee meetings in Austin, Rochester and Winona. Important testimony was also heard during a housing committee I chaired in Winona. In addition, I presented two of my bills funding inter-city passenger rail.  These bills are strongly supported by Red Wing and Winona.  The city councils of both communities have passed unanimous resolutions in support of a second train from St. Paul to Chicago.

It was interesting to leave St. Paul and receive a Greater Minnesota perspective on issues we consider at the Capitol.

In just a few days, the credit for military service in a combat zone in 2015 will expire for most qualifying service members. Check out the Minnesota Department of Revenue site for more information. More than 1400 military service members are eligible for the credit but have not claimed it yet.

Minnesota Values Project

The Minnesota Values Project is a partnership between Minnesotans, elected officials and organizations to create a shared vision for the future of our state. Working together, we can strengthen our communities by improving education opportunities, making affordable healthcare a reality, and increasing economic prosperity for all Minnesotans.

Since 2017, House DFLers have facilitated hundreds of meaningful conversations with Minnesotans about their priorities. The work continues this year and in 2020 as we hear more about the vision we all have for our state. Please take a moment to complete this survey so we can learn more about your priorities as we head to the 2020 legislative session.
