Legislative Update - March 14, 2019

Thursday, March 14, 2019

Neighbors and Friends,

Our first committee deadline is this Friday, so there is a furious rush to have bills heard in either a House or Senate committee in order for the legislation to continue through the process. As I mentioned in last week’s update, you can click on this link to read more about committee deadlines.

All Aboard Minnesota, a group focused on development and expansion of intercity rail transportation, held their Capitol day on the hill last week and I was asked to give remarks to the group. I sit on the Transportation Finance & Policy Division, and am a long-time advocate of passenger rail. There was an article in Tuesday’s Star Tribune about Amtrak’s interest in building a line between the Twin Cities and Duluth/Superior. Click here to read the article. Wisconsin Public Radio also broadcast a news story on the issue.

Many groups made their way to the Capitol this week. It is always interesting to meet with visitors from all over the state and, of course, our district. Among those I met with were the Minnesota Historical Society, Rochester Chamber, Arts advocates, Minnesota Private Colleges, disability services, hospitality industry and homeless coalition advocates.
