Legislative Update - March 6, 2019

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

Neighbors and Friends,

The first day of spring is two weeks away. Like you, I’ll believe it when I see it! I hope you are surviving the elements and are prepared for the predicted inclement weather this weekend. Here is some news from the Capitol:

MIPRC

Speaker Melissa Hortman has appointed me to serve on the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission (MIPRC). The organization brings together state leaders from across the region to advocate for passenger rail improvements. You can read more about the organization here.

Committee Deadlines

The first committee deadline of the 2019 legislative session is Friday, March 15. This is the first of three agreed-upon dates meant to move bills through the legislative process. This link will explain the deadlines and their purpose.

Regents Selection

This year, four of the twelve University of Minnesota Regent seats are open for election. Candidates have gone through a vetting process, meeting with legislators to discuss their qualifications for the position. In the near future, there will likely be a joint session of the House and Senate to vote on the finalists to fill the positions.

Bell Museum at the Capitol

The Bell Museum held an interactive day at the Capitol, offering hands-on experiences to drive a robot rover, look at meteorite fragments, check out the high-powered telescope and learn about lunar landings. We are so lucky that this gem is located in our backyard and it was terrific for them to share with all who visited the Capitol today.

Visitors to the Capitol

This is a partial list of those who stopped by my office this week: Physician’s Assistants, Minnesota Medical Group Management Association, DeafBlind advocates, Nursery representatives and Rail Transportation backers.

If you’d like to follow news from the legislature, read the House of Representatives' Session Daily to get the latest updates.

Thank you for the privilege of representing you in the legislature.

Sincerely, Alice
