Legislative Update - June 27, 2018

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

Neighbors and Friends,

Summer is finally here! The days are warmer and longer and it’s time for another update from the Capitol:

TOWN HALL

As usual, the engaged residents of our district showed up for the town hall with Sen. Marty and me last Thursday. We discussed many issues related to the recently-completed legislative session. We also looked ahead at the priorities of the 2019 Session, which will convene at noon on Tuesday, January 8. I want to thank all of you who attended the meeting and shared your thoughts and concerns with us.

BELL MUSEUM GRAND OPENING

After many months of planning and construction, the new Bell Museum will celebrate its grand opening the weekend of July 13-15. The weekend will feature hands-on exhibits and experiences for every age. This state-of-the-art facility has something for everyone and I hope you can help us celebrate this achievement in technology and history in our very own back yard. The museum is located at 2088 Larpenteur Av. West near the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus and state fairgrounds. Go to the Bell Museum web site for all the festivities and see how you can take part in this truly historic event! The woolly mammoth is amazing!

MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT

The Minnesota Department of Health is conducting a survey to help them better understand the needs of women, children, and families across the state of Minnesota.

They are asking Minnesotans to respond to this short 2-question Discovery Survey to make sure the needs of women, children and families in our community are heard.

This morning I had the pleasure of speaking to students attending the St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School. They are using a Habitat for Humanity curriculum on housing and homelessness. This afternoon I spoke to a group at the Capitol who are taking an advocacy class sponsored by Lutheran Social Service. I am always inspired by participants and their comments.

Please contact me with any concerns or questions.

Sincerely,

Alice
