New laws taking effect

Friday, June 27, 2014

Dear Neighbor,

Here’s a quick rundown of some new laws that take effect July 1. Most of the changes are budget-related items.

One non-budget change is that a new law will attempt to curb the theft of cell phones. Manufacturers      will have until     July 1, 2015, to equip cell phones with “kill switch” technology.

You can find complete details at this link: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hinfo/leginfo/0714nlrelease.pdf.

Otherwise, the summer festival season is underway. I look forward to meeting with area citizens at events this summer throughout District 31B. One of the highlights will be the 14th annual Booster Day Parade July 19 in East Bethel. Hope to see you there!

We are now in the Legislature’s offseason, but I still welcome you input on any of the issues. A special session may take place this summer to deal with flood damage in various parts of the state and I’ll pass along more information on that front as things unfold. Meantime, feel free to email me with whatever is on your mind.

Sincerely,

Tom
