Positions available on game/fish funding panels

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Dear Neighbor,

Here is an opportunity for people who want to have a voice in how our game and fish tax dollars are spent. It would be good to have some local representation from citizens on this issue.

The Dept. of Natural Resources is accepting applications to serve on citizen oversight committees for the Game and Fish Fund. There will be around 12 people selected to serve three-year terms on the Fisheries Oversight and Wildlife Oversight committees. Panel members review the DNR's annual Game and Fish Fund Report and present the findings.

Five members of each committee also will serve on the Game and Fish Budgetary Oversight Committee, an umbrella group which reviews Game and Fish Fund revenues, expenditures and fiscal policies.

Nearly $100 million flows in and out of the DNR Game and Fish Fund each year, including revenue generated from hunting and fishing license sales, federal funding and a sales tax on state lottery tickets. This helps fund fish, wildlife and law enforcement programs, along with 5,400 fishing lakes, 1,400 Wildlife Management Areas and 150-plus field conservation officers.

Click here to access the application. The deadline is Friday, Oct. 25. This is a self-nomination process, but feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Tom
