Statement from Rep. Tom Hackbarth on Mille Lacs Lake Working Group

Thursday, August 13, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Tom Hackbarth, R-Cedar, co-chairman of the Legislative Working Group on Mille Lacs Lake issued the following statement after today's working group meeting:

"After three meetings of the Mille Lacs Lake working group, it's disappointing that since calling for a special session Governor Dayton and his administration still have not put forward a concrete proposal about what exactly a special session relief package would look like. While progress was made at today's meeting, there are still too many unanswered questions and it remains unlikely that legislative leaders would be able to agree on the limited parameters Governor Dayton has demanded as a precondition of calling the special session.

"Once we have received a concrete proposal from the Governor or his administration, we can convene another meeting of the working group and examine a way forward to provide the immediate relief as well as a more long-term plan for ensuring the continued sustainability of walleye fishing on Mille Lacs Lake."
