Legislative Update- March 15, 2016

Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

After six days into the 2016 session, the House Transportation Policy and Finance Committee met yesterday evening to discuss REAL ID.

The committee passed a repeal of the state’s 2009 prohibition on compliance with federal REAL ID rules. The bill then directs the Department of Public Safety to begin the planning process towards ensuring that Minnesota meets the heightened REAL ID standards.

We can anticipate another bill later during session specifying a start date for the implementation of REAL ID.  Even so, I am hopeful that by taking these proactive preparation measures now, we can ensure that Minnesotans will have ample notice to acquire their new standard state-issued IDs.

Additionally, I have been reappointed to the Transportation Conference Committee to iron out the differences between the Senate and House provisions of the Transportation Finance Bill, HF 4.   The Conference Committee is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow to begin negotiations.

It is an honor to serve you at the Capitol.

Sincerely,

Ron Erhardt

State Representative
