NEWS RELEASE

REP. BROD APPOINTED TO KEY COMMITTEE
NEGOTIATING CAPITAL INVESTMENT BILL

ST. PAUL - Minnesota Speaker of the House Steve Sviggum has appointed State Representative Laura Brod (R-New Prague) to be a conferee on the House/Senate conference committee which will craft a compromise version of the 2006 Capital Investment bill. Brod is one of five House conferees who will create a bonding bill that will be voted for approval by both legislative bodies and then go to the Governor to be signed into law.

“I’m pleased to have been appointed to the committee which will negotiate the final version of the bonding bill,” Brod said. “We have many good projects to sort through so I’m ready to get started.”

Brod said the House/Senate conferees will look at the differences between their bills, and eventually prioritize which statewide projects will receive bonding proceeds.

“I know we will spend many long nights negotiating with the Senate conferees,” Brod said. “We will take a hard look at whether or not each project is a legitimate statewide asset, and vote accordingly. The bonding bill is our primary duty this session, so I am hopeful we can finish our work quickly.”
