New Year at the State House of Representatives

Friday, January 16, 2015

Dear Friends,

Happy 2015!

We began the 2015 Session in the Minnesota House last Tuesday and things have ramped up fast.  The first day of session is always an uplifting one.  We have several new House members who were elected last fall and for many of them, it was their first time on the House floor.  It’s always heartening to see the friends and families of the new members supporting them as they begin to do the people’s work.  That’s why the first day of legislative session always reminds me that even though elections are difficult, we’re all here to work together for a better Minnesota.

Committee lists have been finalized.  I’m looking forward to serving on the Commerce and Regulatory Reform Committee, the K-12 Education Finance Committee, and the Taxes Committee.  I’ve worked hard to build my base of knowledge and experience in these areas and I’m eager to bring Richfield’s and Bloomington’s perspectives to these committees.

I will be focusing on increasing economic security for Minnesotans.  Even though we hear in the news that the economy is improving, when I talk to friends and neighbors in Richfield and Bloomington, it’s clear that we need to keep working to stabilize our economy.  Many more jobs are available, but we need jobs that allow people to do more than just get by.  More Minnesotans are working for a living, but people need to earn a living wage if we’re going to provide a secure future for our families.

I am honored to serve Richfield and Bloomington and I look forward to continuing that work.  Please feel free to contact me at 651-296-7158 or rep.linda.slocum@house.mn.

Cheers,

Linda
