Legislative Update 3-11-15

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

As you know, I’ve been working on technology issues at the state level for decades.  We’ve saved the state tens of millions of dollars and made state government more accessible through modernizing state practices and consolidating our informational technology infrastructure.  Here is a story about my recent efforts to do that with MNsure

When Minnesota created MNsure, our health care exchange, I had language inserted that would ensure it was governed by the same informational technology regime and laws that most of state government works under.  Unfortunately that was removed in the final version of the bill.

When MNsure first went online, we saw a number of technological problems.  To address those and make sure the exchange was controlled by information technology experts in state government, I authored HF 18 to remove the harmful exemptions.

HF 18 was unanimously passed out of the House Government Operations Committee on Tuesday and is heading for the State Government Finance Committee.

I’m proud to work on this bipartisan legislation to improve our health exchange and make sure government programs are more accessible to you.  If you have ideas on how to improve state government, please call me at (651) 296-4257 or respond to this email.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Kahn
