Plymouth, Minn. -- Governor Mark Dayton signed the bipartisan State Government Finance Omnibus Bill authored by Representative Sarah Anderson (R-Plymouth) into law. This legislation will fund several state agencies for Fiscal Years 2016-17.
“Over the last two years, state government spending grew three times faster than our economy. That's not sustainable governing, nor is it responsible," said Rep. Anderson. "Negotiating with the Senate, House Republicans took the lead on bringing real reforms and additional oversights to state government, limiting spending increases and ensuring Minnesota government is held accountable to hardworking taxpayers. I am pleased this bill was signed into law."
Some highlights of the legislation include:
Prioritizing veterans' health care by investing an additional
$17 million for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs for state
veterans' homes
Maintaining Military Affairs facilities
Cutting costs of county operations and saving property taxpayer
money
Evaluating effectiveness of state programs and reducing the
size of government
Simplifying the paperwork process for small businesses
registering with the Secretary of States
Holding the line on state government spending growth
Supporting Healthy Eating initiatives for low-income families
and kids
