Legislative Update

Thursday, May 14, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On Wednesday, the House unanimously passed my bill, HF 501, which will protect the voting rights of our active military.

This legislation expands the existing special procedures for absentee voting by members of the military and other citizens residing overseas to include members of the Minnesota National Guard. This will give equal voting opportunities to members of our National Guard and help ensure that our state's military members are not disenfranchised while deployed stateside.

I have been working across the aisle with Secretary of State Steve Simon and other state leaders over the past few months to move this bill through the legislative process. We need to ensure that those honorably serving our state and nation have a voice in our elections, and I am pleased it garnered such strong bipartisan support.

HF 501 has now been sent to the Senate where it awaits a debate and final passage.

As your voice in St. Paul, if I can be of any assistance to you or your family on a matter of state government, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Kelly
