House Passes Fenton Bill to Protect Veterans' Voting Rights

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

St. Paul— On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the House unanimously passed a bill authored by Representative Kelly Fenton (R-Woodbury) that will protect veterans' voting rights.

House File 501 expands the existing special procedures for absentee voting by members of the military and other citizens residing overseas to include members of the Minnesota National Guard. This will help ensure that our state's military members are not disenfranchised while deployed.

"Our state has a proud tradition of high voter participation, and my legislation will continue that legacy, making voting more accessible to our active military," said Rep. Fenton. "I am proud to have worked across the aisle with our Secretary of State and other state leaders to move this important bill forward this session."

HF 501 now awaits passage in the Senate.
