RELEASE: Statement from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen on status of budget negotiations

Tuesday, May 12, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—Representative Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, issued the following statement regarding the status of ongoing budget negotiations.

"Yesterday a report from Governor Dayton's own revenue commissioner said that lower gas prices are the main reason Minnesota's economy continues to grow, and have the same positive effect as tax relief for Minnesota families. That's why it's so disappointing that the Senate continues to hold up budget negotiations demanding an unpopular and harmful gas tax increase. With a $2 billion surplus, many families are wondering why the Governor and Senate are insisting on raising their taxes that would take money out of their pockets. We can come to an agreement that focuses on priorities like senior care, roads and bridges, education, and tax relief for families if the Senate comes to the table and drops their unreasonable demands for a gas tax."
