News from Representative Wills 05-08-2015

Friday, May 8, 2015
Dear Friends,

Conference committees were hard at work this week, and will continue working into next week as we finalize the agreements for our 2016-2017 budget. Both the House and the Senate are making good progress on the budget, and I still believe we are on track to finish our work on time before our May 18th deadline.

I will be sure to keep you updated on the budget bills, and the bills I have included in omnibus bills as they return from conference committee next week.

Please continue to send me your thoughts and input as we enter the final several days of session by emailing rep.anna.wills@house.mn or calling 651-296-4306.

Family Law Reform
Today the House unanimously passed a bill to reform some of Minnesota's divorce and custody laws. These reforms were the result of years of hard work by a bipartisan group of legislators, as well as advocates and other stakeholders involved in divorce, custody and family law issues. Divorce is always a difficult process for children, and I hope these reforms, which update best interest factors among many other changes, will help smooth out the process and benefit children and their parents in the long run.

In the Community
On Sunday, May 3rd, Senator Greg Clausen and I attended the Allegro Choral Academy's Spring Concert that was partially funded by Legacy dollars. And on Tuesday, May 5th, I attended the Elementary Patriotic Program at Rosemount's 1st Baptist Church where the students sang patriotic songs and honored our service members. It is always inspiring to see our youth express so much joy as they share the gift of music with others.
