Legislative Update (May 8, 2015)

Friday, May 8, 2015

Neighbors,

I have had a great week meeting with constituents and local business owners. I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve as your voice as we debate matters of great importance to our district and our state.

Governor Dayton Signs SF1816

Yesterday, Governor Dayton signed into law SF1816, my bill to clarify state law surrounding fraudulent transfers of assets. SF1816 passed the House unanimously on Tuesday. This change in law will benefit business owners and consumers by providing predictability and increasing creditor and consumer protections. My bill also allows for electronic records, commonly used in transactions today, to serve as evidence in court cases involving fraudulent transfers.

National Day of Prayer

Ronald Reagan once said that “if we ever forget we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” I’m thankful to those of you in our community that have lifted the Legislature up in prayer and have been dedicated to ensuring servant leadership in all levels of government. It was my honor to attend Maple Grove’s National Day of Prayer breakfast on Wednesday. Thank you to Mayor Mark Steffenson for organizing this event, and to all who attended for their dedication to praying for our nation and its political leadership.

Happy Mother’s Day

Finally, Happy Mother’s Day to our caring and compassionate Minnesota moms, and a very special Happy Mother’s Day to my wife, Sandra. Thank you, moms, for your investment in your children and the life lessons you have taught them. Enjoy this weekend’s celebrations with your families and children!

As we conclude the legislative session and begin negotiations with the Senate over our budget bills, I remain committed to delivering on the promises I’ve made to improve Minnesota for the next generation and watch our state’s spending. Please continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts on any legislation before the House or any community issues to which I can be of assistance. I am available via phone at (651) 296-5502, or via email at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Dennis
