Legislative Update from Rep. Bob Barrett

Friday, May 8, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week is National Nurses Week, and I'd like to thank all of the wonderful Minnesotans who have chosen this important profession.

Nurses are always there to offer a steady, caring hand to our sick and vulnerable. I would also like to offer special recognition to my mother whose nursing career began working the third shift in a hospital emergency room prior to spending many, many years in the nursing profession at senior living facilities.

Our health care field is always changing, but nurses are a constant and needed presence to deliver quality care. A good nurse not only cares for us when we are ill, but they teach us how to care for ourselves—whether it’s recovering from surgery or managing a chronic disease.

So thank you to all the hardworking nurses out there, and I hope you have a Happy Nurses Week. You deserve this recognition and praise, and I thank you for choosing a career of service to others!

Speaking of moms, Happy Mothers' Day to those who hold the honor and title of being called mom.  One day is not nearly enough to properly pay respect to everything you do, day in and day out for your kids.

The Chisago Lakes community is blessed with great kids, in large part because of their wonderful and loving moms.

I hope you have a happy and restful day.

Tax Conference Committee

As the Vice Chair of the House Taxes Committee, I have been chosen to serve on the conference committee between the House and Senate to negotiate the final version of the Tax Omnibus Bill.

The House Tax Bill, which was passed earlier this month, includes $2 billion in tax relief for middle class families, college students, seniors, veterans and job creators. I will keep you updated on this important legislation as we near the end of session and bipartisan consensus is reached on this bill.

If you have comments on legislation being debated in the House, please don't hesitate to share them with me by calling my office or sending me an email.

As always, it's a privilege to represent the people of Chisago County.

Sincerely,

Bob
