Legislative Update - February 12, 2015

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Dear friends,

Due to our rapidly growing economy, Minnesota currently has a $1 billion budget surplus. Governor Dayton recently unveiled a two year budget plan that would use this money to responsibly invest in Minnesota’s economy. His budget proposal would create a free, voluntary pre-K program for all 4 year olds in Minnesota, increase funding for K-12 schools, make higher education more affordable, and deliver $100 million in child care tax credits for working families.

Governor Dayton’s budget proposal also contains funding to fix Minnesota’s aging roads and bridges. His proposal would repair Minnesota’s infrastructure and transit systems, and create an estimated 119,000 new jobs in the process. You can view Governor Dayton’s full budget proposal here.

From this point, both the House and Senate majorities will introduce their budget proposals to begin the process of budget negotiations. We will be reviewing these budget proposals as well as a variety of policy initiatives over the next several weeks.

I want to thank those of you who were able to attend my recent town hall meeting with Senator Scalze and Representative Yarusso. I appreciated hearing from you and encourage you to contact me anytime during the legislative session with your input.  I can be reached by phone at (651) 296-7153 or by email at rep.jason.isaacson@house.mn.

Sincerely,

Jason Isaacson

State Representative
