St. Paul—Today, Representative Jack Considine (DFL-Mankato) will introduce legislation to direct the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) to prepare for possible agricultural goods to be sold to Cuba.
“The Mankato area is home to some of the best farmers in the world. If the federal government opens up trade with Cuba, I want Minnesota to be ready with some of the best agricultural products in the world.”
The bill directs the MDA to take the necessary steps to be ready to begin selling commodities to Cuba.
“This is common-sense legislation,” said Minnesota Farmers Union President Doug Peterson. “Opening trade with Cuba instantly creates demand for agricultural products, Minnesota being ready to trade means more money for Minnesota farmers.”
The bill is expected to be referred to the committee on Agriculture Policy.
