Legislative Update 1-8-15

Thursday, January 8, 2015

Dear Neighbor,

Legislators gathered at the Capitol on Tuesday for the first day of the 2015 legislative session.  The eighty-ninth session of the legislature started with the swearing in of all the Members of the Minnesota House of Representatives, including me.

I’m proud my constituents have returned me to the Capitol to represent them for another term.  It’s always a good day on the House floor when everyone is sworn in, especially seeing the excitement of family members of both new and returning members.

Speaker Daudt appointed me to three committees: State Government Finance, Commerce and Regulatory Reform, and Job Growth and Affordability Policy and Finance.  I’ll be the DFL Lead on State Government Finance this biennium.

These are all committees I’m glad to serve on.  There is a great deal of good that we can accomplish for the people of Minnesota with the legislation that will move through these committees.  I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the people’s best interests are served.

I’ll focus on the issues important to my constituents: improving transit and transportation investments, including seeking funding for the 3rd Street Kellogg Bridge, building on the historic investments in education like all-day kindergarten, and securing good-paying jobs and affordable housing opportunities.

Sincerely,

Sheldon
